Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW is a dedicated solution-focused mental health professional with experience and training in various therapeutic traditions. Because of the abundant assortment of approaches at her disposal, you will receive a more holistic approach to treatment than you might with other psychotherapists. It is not uncommon for those suffering from mental illness to have a complex set of mental, biochemical, physical and perspective-based issues which compound one another. Celeste offers brief and long-term interactive healing and can create a treatment program that is tailored specifically for your individual needs.
The following is an overview of the solution-focused mental wellness therapies offered by Celeste.
Integrative/ Eclectic Therapy
Individual therapies can offer highly effective treatment for certain specific illnesses. However, there is often a combination of mental illness and other factors, both mind and body centric, that may effect your treatment. It is important to note that Integrative/Eclectic Psychotherapy is used most often when a patient has several illnesses that are of pressing concern. This approach is the basis for all of Celeste’s work. She combines various techniques from multiple therapeutic sources. At the root of this combination is the psychodynamic approach of making conscious what is unconscious. Celeste believes that although traditional psychoanalysis is generally considered outdated, it remains the bedrock for all change. It is the root of all psychology, just as chakra one, Muladhara is the root of the Human Chakra System. We can not change what we do not see, and Celeste will teach you to fearlessly reach into the shadows and elevate your consciousness with a variety of consciousness-raising techniques. She combines traditional “talk” therapy with the various therapies discussed below, and in more detail on the Celestial Psychology® page. She recommends nutritional changes, meditation and relaxation techniques, physical exercise, and energy-medicine healings. Celeste is committed to offering you the most effective treatment available with integrative techniques to create a holistic treatment program suited to your individual needs.
Say “Yes!” to change, and contact Psychotherapy Healing Services, LLC today and take the first step on the road to healing with Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW.
Groups usually consist of six to ten members who have been carefully selected by Celeste, who facilitates the sessions. Celeste is committed to confidentiality—as are all therapists—and group members must sign a contract to maintain the privacy of who is seen and what is shared in the group sessions.
Celeste holds two types of groups. The first is naturally-empowering, and is psycho-educational and experiential. It typically runs twelve weeks, with weekly sessions lasting 2.5 to 3 hours per week. Psycho-educational groups are based on the principles of Celestial Psychology. You will be required to purchase a workbook, a guidebook, and to keep up with homework and practice assignments during the week. There is some motivational exploration to determine and overcome participant’s resistance, but basically this type of group is educational, while still allowing you to take an active role in your own therapeutic process.
The second type of group offered at Psychotherapy Healings Services, LLC is psychodynamic and ongoing group psychotherapy. Celeste bases this work on the Integrative/Eclectic approach mentioned above. Groups meet once per week and last 1.5 hours. Trust, natural empathy and altruism build as you and each member risks sharing their experience, strength, and hope, thus helping to facilitate the healing process. Whether suffering from acute or chronic depression and/or anxiety; addiction to substances or specific unwanted behaviors; spiritual crisis or spiritual emergence—or all of these issues—you may qualify to be a candidate for group psychotherapy and may benefit from the Group Psychotherapy offered at Psychotherapy Healing Services, LLC, by Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW.
Clients are encouraged to participate in both types of groups, as completing the 12-week psycho-educational group enhances the ongoing psychodynamic experience. In both groups you may be encouraged to discuss whatever subjects you find pressing. In any specific group, however, Celeste may steer you toward expressing your emotions concerning your experiences. In both cases, you will not be forced or pressured to share more than you feel capable of revealing to the group. Celeste will ask you to keep in mind—when a risk of vulnerability and self-disclosure is taken, the healing power of Group Psychotherapy blossoms, and the empowering nature of Group Psychotherapy will allow you to take a more active role in your healing. You will learn to empathize, support and exchange feedback with one another in a respectful and sensitive manner. Over the course of the therapy, you will develop new responses and adequate coping mechanisms to navigate all of life’s challenges.
Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW is committed to confidentiality and you will be asked to sign a contract and to maintain the confidentiality of all that is shared during group sessions. If you are interested in learning more about Psychotherapy Healing Services, LLC’s psycho-educational or ongoing psycho-dynamic therapy groups, contact Celeste to schedule a consultation and receive the treatment best suited to you- in order to begin your journey toward self-empowerment.
Cognitive Behavioral and Restructuring Therapy
Explore the thoughts and actions that are keeping you trapped in self-defeating patterns. Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW takes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to a deeper level with Cognitive Restructuring. Generally, these paradigm shifting techniques are not readily identified as belonging to these particular theoretical frameworks, during talk-therapy sessions, but are seamlessly integrated into the sessions that Celeste offers. This is an action-oriented treatment, and you may be given assignments to complete between sessions. Over the course of the therapy, you will learn to recognize and replace self-defeating thoughts and actions with more realistic and positive ones. CBT is frequently used to treat anxiety disorders, certain mood disorders, and insomnia; while Cognitive Restructuring is particularly helpful for post-traumatic stress disorder. These therapies readily associate with the fifth chakra, named Visuddha, which is associated with self-expression and assertiveness. Self-expression and assertiveness are integral to optimal mental health
Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW has been providing these eclectically integrated therapies for residents of the West Hartford, Avon, Farmington, Bloomfield and surrounding areas for over a decade. If this therapy has been suggested to you by a family doctor, or if you personally feel that either yourself or a loved one would benefit from Celeste’s eclectic approach contact her today to schedule a consultation.
Behavior Modification Therapy
Changing our behaviors seems like it might best be achieved with life coaching, however, Behavior Modification Therapy gets results that life-coaching may miss, because it is integrated with psychotherapy. Behavior Modification Therapy is a structured form of therapy that works to create objective and measurable changes in our daily lives. It is beneficial for overcoming negative patterns that become ingrained over years of struggling with mental health and addiction issues.
Typically this therapy works by employing a system of reward for positive action. However, according to leading authorities changing one’s behavior for the better is accomplished best with consciousness-raising, because elevated consciousness becomes the reward. When consciousness-raising is the practiced modality it is also the desired outcome of Behavior Modification Therapy. The participant’s healing work is mastering the art of “choice” and the practice of making informed decisions that can only occur as the individual learns to “make conscious what is unconscious.” This internal process is explored and learned in talk-therapy sessions, however, execution, must take place outside of the therapy sessions.
The goal of this therapy is to clear your environmental roadblocks that are preventing you from achieving success and nurturing your heart’s deepest desires. The old refrain of, “someday, I will” is replaced by “today, I am.” In addition to helping you create a more satisfying life this therapy is remarkably effective for removing road-blocks that life-coaching strategies miss. In an Integrated/Eclectic approach this therapy may not be readily identified as belonging to this particular theoretical framework, however, Behavior Modification is seamlessly integrated into the talk therapy sessions that Celeste offers. Call today to schedule your first appointment on your road to changing your behavior with consciousness-raising.
Body Oriented Psychotherapy
Body Oriented Psychotherapy, which is also referred to as Somatic Therapy, regards mental illness as an imbalance that manifests itself on the physical, as well as emotional, level. It is believed that because it takes a physical form, mental illness can also be assisted to be remedied through the body. Celeste has been combining Body Oriented Psychotherapy into her eclectic approach for over a decade. She uses a combined approach of verbal communication and structured physical activities to inspire your emotional healing. When you experience depression or anxiety, these emotions can manifest in the form of body tension, teeth grinding, irregular breathing and unhealthy posture. Celeste teaches breathing, posture, mindfulness, basics of tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), chakra-balancing—and other physical exercises—such as the basics of T’ai chi and Pan Gu Shengong, to help you become aware and capable of healing your emotional state.
Body Oriented Psychotherapy is effective precisely because it uses multiple entry points into understanding the human psyche and moving toward total integration, and this is especially true for the Human Energy System (HES) and the chakras. Celeste holds classes to teach chakra-balancing and has created an entire workbook for Celestial Psychology® in order for you to fully integrate body, mind and spirit. Call for updated class schedules and get started with integrated body and talk-therapy.
Interpersonal Therapy focuses on the current relationships you have with family members, colleagues, and other persons in your life. There are both short and long term forms of this therapy. In the short-term, sessions are on a weekly basis for several months, the longer-maintenance form of this therapy, involves monthly sessions over a period of two to three years. This therapy has been made famous by the book, I’m OK, You’re OK, by Thomas A. Harris, in the late 1960’s.
This therapy works wonders by uncovering the interpersonal sources of your emotional discontent which often initiate or exacerbate depressive episodes. Once your area of stress has been discovered, you will move toward identifying and expressing the underlying emotions surrounding the stressors. Balancing your fourth chakra, known as Anahata—the heart center—is an integrated method and also a goal of this work. You will learn communication skills and develop assertiveness – one of the most important aspects of talk therapy. In an Integrated/Eclectic approach Interpersonal Therapy may not be readily identified as a particular theoretical framework, being utilized however, Interpersonal Therapy seamlessly integrates into the talk therapy sessions that Celeste offers at Psychotherapy Healing Services, LLC. Call today to schedule your first appointment to learn to say, “I’m OK, you’re OK” and to get on your road to improving your relationships with others and yourself.
Humanistic & Transpersonal Therapies
Two of the most strikingly effective and contemporary therapies integrated into Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW’s work are the Humanistic & Transpersonal Therapies. It is important to note that although these therapies are similar practices, they are not identical. They are both powerful therapies, and are often used in conjunction with other therapies for maximum benefit. These therapies incorporate a spiritual perspective and transcendent nature that is associated with the sixth chakra, named Ajna.
Regarding the Humanistic Psychologies: The following is an excerpt from Celestial Psychology®: A Workbook for Chakras, Psychological Theory and Conscious Evolution, by Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW.
“Abraham H. Maslow (1908–1970) was the founder of Humanistic Psychology, and is best known for creating the Hierarchy of Needs theory, famously depicted in the shape of a pyramid. In Maslow’s opinion, once we are self-actualized and at the top of the pyramid, we are capable of having peak experiences. A review of peak experiences detailed in his book, Religions, Values, and Peak-Experiences (1964), reveals an extraordinary connection to spirituality and consciousness-raising. He defined 25 qualities of peak experiences that were typically thought to be only religious, but he saw they cured ‘chronic anxiety neurosis … and strong obsessive thoughts of suicide.’ The first characteristic happens when one experiences the following: ‘the whole universe is perceived as an integrated and unified whole.’ In the third characteristic he writes, ‘The peak-experience seems to lift us to greater than normal heights so that we can see and perceive in a higher than usual way.’ Peak experiences are highly valuable—intrinsic to mental and emotional health, giving life meaning, and contributing to high-level wellness.”
Transpersonal Psychology has characteristically been associated with the study of the peak experience and recognizes the difference between a spiritual crisis and psychiatric diagnoses in the psychosis categories. Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW is trained in making this differentiation and has helped many avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for what has turned out to be a spiritual emergency, rather than a psychotic episode. She is also adept at fostering spiritual emergence with her own brand of psychotherapy, Celestial Psychology®.
Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW will seamlessly incorporate the Humanistic & Transpersonal Therapies into your healing process. If you have been referred to Celeste by another health professional, or if you feel that either yourself or a loved one may benefit from one of the many therapeutic practices she offers please contact her today for a confidential assessment to determine the most effective course of action.
Gestalt therapy eclectically integrates very well into traditional “talk” therapy, because Gestalt techniques use discussion as a method of achieving psychological insights and emotional well-being. What makes Gestalt Therapy unique is that it incorporates mindful practice and creative action into the healing process as well. Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW may ask you to utilize the Gestalt Therapy techniques of role-play and/or the empty-chair, which involves imagining the object of your resentment is seated in an empty chair in the office, and expressing or venting your bottled up emotions and cognitions. This therapy is readily identified with the third chakra, which is named Manipura and is considered the action chakra. If you are seeking to break free of old patterns, assume control of your life, and develop your core self you will benefit greatly from Gestalt techniques, which are fully integrated into talk therapy sessions with Celeste. Call today and schedule your appointments to discover your best course of action to bring about the desired changes in your life.
Existential Therapy seamlessly integrates into traditional “talk” therapy, as a method of achieving authenticity and inner calm. Learning about Existential Therapy, (although it may not be identified as such during sessions) offers a unique opportunity to relieve your anxiety and promote your healing process as well. Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW employs techniques which may include balancing your second chakra, known as Svadhisthana, which is readily associated with the release of anxiety. You will learn controlled movement, creative visualization, and the practice of creating your own affirmations. If you are seeking to break free of old patterns, assume control of your life, and develop your core self you can benefit greatly from the Existential Therapy which is fully integrated into talk therapy sessions with Celeste. Call today and schedule your appointments to discover your place in today’s world.
Twelve-Step Facilitation Therapy
You are invited to an in-depth exploration and comparison of your own understanding versus the traditional understanding of the Twelve Steps of any of anonymous fellowships. Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW also uses a synthesis of various therapeutic techniques which are geared towards helping you achieve your abstinence and mental health goals as quickly as possible. Twelve-Step Facilitation (TSF) therapy is especially useful if you have been unable to reach your goals with traditional program attendance alone or with psychoanalysis with other providers.
Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW is a therapist who will challenge you to abandon self-defeating defense mechanisms, which are the root of relapse and are often missed with meetings alone. You will learn to acknowledge hidden underlying emotions to yourself, and the people important in your life and your recovery. The rewards of this therapy are dramatic and sustained healing in a relatively short period of time. If you are seeking to break free of old patterns, assume control of your life, and develop your core self you can benefit greatly from TSF techniques, which are fully integrated into talk therapy sessions with Celeste. Call today and schedule your appointments to discover your best course of action to bring about desired changes in your life.
Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW created Celestial Psychology® in order to expose and erradicate the mental and physical habits that are keeping you trapped in a web of self-defeating patterns. This theoretical framework is seamlessly integrated into the talk-therapy sessions that she offers at Psychotherapy Healing Services, LLC. This therapy is an eclectic combination of standard psychotherapeutic and holistic practices. Celeste will assist you to make gradual and/or immediate, realistic and measurable changes towards a more fulfilling life. You will be among the first to experience this state-of-the-art newly created and instituted psychotherapy. Celestial Psychology® programs can consist of a fixed number of sessions ranging between eight and twenty, which may or may not include participation in structured experiential classes. This holistic approach to psychotherapy includes the opportunity to experience the highly-specialized frequencies of the energy-medicine technique of the Reconnection®, which is a separate treatment. In the initial psychotherapy sessions, Celeste will discuss treatment objectives with you. Once a clear goal or set of goals is established, the next phase of treatment begins. Because of the action-oriented nature of this therapy, you will often be given assignments, or “homework”, to complete on your own. This homework may be related to incorporating the specifics of Celestial Psychology®, or your assignments for instance, may be related to developing your assertiveness or identifying abusive behaviors in yourself or your significant others. Over the course of the therapy, you will learn to recognize and replace self-defeating thoughts and actions with more realistic and positive ones.
